Grand Targhee Resort (which seems to be getting more snowfall than anywhere this season, with the possible exception of Washington, D.C.) will be launching an electricity conservation initiative for guests this President’s Day weekend. The resort has partnered with local utility Bonneville Power Administration and point6 socks to encourage guests to turn the heat down at night and while skiing, turn off lights, and unplug electronics chargers. The goal — part of an initiative to reduce the resort’s carbon footprint by 18 percent by 2020 — is to save one kilowatt of energy per guest per stay. Upon check-in, guests will take a pledge to do their very best to save power, and be rewarded for their commitment with a pair of point6 merino socks — reminding them to help bring energy usage to heel.
