They come from around the world to represent their sports, their families, their nations, and nothing illustrates the spirit of the Olympic Games quite like the excitement on the faces of all the athletes at the Opening Ceremonies.
SNOW magazine was there to take part in this experience of a lifetime, and from start to finish there were goosebumps. Joy was mingled with a sense of melancholy as we watched the Georgian athletes enter with heavy hearts after losing Nodar Kumaritashvili in a training accident on Friday. After dedicating the games to him, sadness gave way to awe as the show encompassed the amazing diversity of its host nation. From the Four Nations’ welcome to the highlighting of Canadian celebrities, we truly were able to get a sense of what this country is all about, and we can’t wait to get to know this place even more over the course of the next 16 days.
