2010 Winter Olympics: Women's Downhill

SNOW joins the rest of America in congratulating the athletes who made yesterday a record-setting day for the U.S. Olympic team. Despite a painful deep shin bruise, Lindsey Vonn went fast and furious to take gold on the downhill, and was joined on the podium by silver medalist Julia Mancuso, wearing her trademark tiara (a timely reminder of her new lingerie line, Kiss My Tiara, profiled in the pages of this fine magazine’s Spring issue, on newsstands now). Then Shani Davis captured a second gold medal in the 1,000-meter speed skating event, while Chad Hedrick won the bronze. Capping off a brilliant day for the Americans was the snowboarding team, with Scotty Lago winning bronze and phenom Shaun White — who had the gold locked up after his first run but went all out on his second turn anyway — busting an incredible move with a Double McTwist 1260 that actually earned him a higher score on what was essentially a victory lap. Three sports, six medals, one nation under snow. It doesn’t get better than this.
