Après-Ski Cocktail: Arosa Kulm

image-arosa-champagne-cocktail

If you want adrenaline, head to Zermatt or Verbier. But if you want serotonin, visit Arosa. This off-the-beaten-path mountain resort in eastern Switzerland has been popular with the health-and-wellness crowd for more than a century. The view from the 8,700-foot Weisshorn summit is one of the most breathtaking in all of Switzerland, though its shoulders lead mostly to mellow pistes and uncrowded lifts. The big attraction lies at the base of the slopes: the luxe and laid-back Arosa Kulm Hotel & Alpin Spa.

There, guests gather after a mellow day of downhill — or a relaxing rubdown in the spa — for a cocktail in the posh K Lounge. Sitting around the open fireplace and watching the sunset over the mountainscape, many guests opt for the resort’s signature quaff, which features champagne with a dash of sour-cherry liqueur and cranberry juice. “It’s very refreshing after a day of skiing, concurrently very classy with the champagne,” says Lars Horal, former food and beverage manager at Arosa Kulm.

Elegant and easy like its namesake resort, the Arosa Kulm Cocktail is an ideal offering at any après-ski gathering. Even if your spa day got in the way of actually taking any runs.
